Taxi and Private Hire Drivers
Within the last year, Train to Gain funding became available to self-employed workers. This meant that taxi and private hire drivers, often self-employed, became eligible for free training for the first time.
GAP Training was one of the first companies to offer the level 2 NVQ in Taxi and PHV Driving.
We now work in partnership with York College, Middlesbrough College and Gateshead College to provide this qualification throughout Yorkshire and the North East.
Licensing authorities are keen to see taxi and private hire driving professionalised and several are considering making the NVQ training compulsory for all licence holders.
We run workshops that fit around the demands of the job at quiet times, such as between school runs. Our assessors carry out one observation and provide you with all the support you need to complete the training.
Here’s an appraisal from a taxi driver in York who completed his NVQ this year:
I am writing to say thank you for all your efforts and running such well organised sessions. It was all thoroughly stimulating and ... it was delivered in such a style to make it interesting. It should become compulsory for all new entrants as it will give them a good foundation on how the taxi industry works’. Ian Coleman
Watch out for photos of the forthcoming presentation ceremonies to be held in Scarborough and York!
